History
Kansanga Parish was inaugurated on 02.12.2002. It was made of two Sub-Parishes of Kkonge-Lukuli and Kansanga which were carved off Nsambya Parish. The Auxiliary Bishop of Kampala Archdiocese, The Rt. Reverend Christopher Kakooza, presided over the ceremony. He installed on this occasion Rev. Father Joseph Bbuye as its first Parish Priest. He also opened the parish Church which had been under construction by the Christians of Kansanga Sup-Parish since 1975. The Parish is under the patronage of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel.
Between 2002 and 2019, the Parish covered an area of 10 square Kilometers in the civil division of Makindye Division, a suburb quarter of Kampala City. It covered the civic villages of Kansanga-Muyenga, Konge-Lukuli, Kyeyitabya and Bukasa. It borders with the Catholic Parishes of Nsambya in the south west, west and north, Ggaba in the south and Mbuya in the south-east. It started with an estimated catholic population of 10,000.
Its parish administrators have been so far Rev. Fr. Joseph Mary Bbuye (December 2002-September 2012), Rev. Fr. Achilles Ssali Mayanja (September 2012- February 2020) and Rev. Fr. Blaise Ssebizibu Zzimbe (February 2020-…). Besides the thriving social services of Caritas, Good Samaritans and Youths, Frs. Bbuye and Mayanja helped a lot in giving the premises of the Parish an urban look in addition to constructing a parish resource centre (The Parish House). They also developed the structures and ameliorated the administration of St. Kizito Nursery and Primary School. The school is the only viable project of the Parish. To date over 650 children visit this school. Fr. Mayanja left behind a well streamlined financial and economic development system.
By 2019 with the division of the original sub-parishes of Kansanga-Muyenga, Bukasa and Konge-Lukuli into smaller ones, new sub-parishes had been created: Seat of Wisdom Kansanga in 2010; St. Jude Lukuli in 2013; St. John Baptist Kyeyitabya 2015, and St. Mugagga Kansanga in 2016. In 2019 the Sub-Parishes of Konge and St. Jude were carved off Kansanga Parish to form a new Parish: St. Denis Ssebuggwaawo Konge-Lukuli Parish. Kansanga Parish was reduced to the original size of Kansanga Sub-Parish with Kyeyitabya and Bukasa (7 sqaure Km with a catholic population of 7,000).
