58th world communications day
The Pope in his message on the 58th world communications day emphacized the theme of Artificial intelligence. He appreciated its pros and warned humanity against the ethical challenges that this new technology has brought with. He criticised the name “Artificial intelligence and says that attributing the term intelligent to a machine is misleading. It should instead be termed as “Machine learning”. He calls upon us not to relegate our thinking capacity to mashines since a mashine can neither think, reason, not can it have common sense and other attributes that are limited to humans. Machines should hence be used as a help not a replacement of the person (an individual substance of a rational nature according to Boethius). The pope invites us to return to the “wisdom of the heart”; to what is termed as natural law or the conscience: that voice of God that helps us to do good and avoid evil. I wish you a good return to the wisdom of the heart in this era of Artificial intelligence.
